To emphasize the aspect of Studying in our slogan ‘Skate, Study, Socialize’, leading skating scientist Jos de Koning will give a lecture on the History of Speed Skating. Central question in this lecture will be ”why does Kjeld Nuis in 2019 skate almost 20 seconds faster than Ard Schenk in 1971?”. Of course, there has been progression in the materials, but is there more? Jos will give the answers!

For more than 20 years, Jos de Koning has been working as a Human Movement Scientist at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and can be considered to be one of the world’s leading skating scientists. Jos has played a crucial role in the implementation of the world famous ‘clapskate’.
